Read the Latest Toolbox Talk on Alcoholism

Learn more about how to build a workplace where coworkers can seek support from their crewmates when they are confronting alcohol use disorder.

The latest Toolbox Talk looks at how to support coworkers who are dealing with alcoholism. Alcoholism, also known as alcohol use disorder, is a medical condition defined by an impaired ability to control one鈥檚 alcohol use despite the negative consequences associated with heavy drinking. Excessive use or dependency can result in experiencing social difficulties, occupational setbacks, and health complications. In the workplace, especially in physically demanding and precision-focused jobs like sheet metal work, the consequences of alcohol abuse can be particularly severe.

This Toolbox Talk will help you build an environment where you can help a crewmate who might be struggling with alcoholism in a safe manner where they do not feel ashamed, threatened, or ostracized and be in a position where they can ask for help when they need it.
